About this Degree
The graduate American Studies program at California State University Fullerton also offers students flexbility and the ability to customize their studies: built into the M.A. study plan are opportunities for students to take a number of electives, to develop knowledge in additional disciplinary fields, and to acquire career skills and experience. Cal State Fullerton's American studies graduate students are a diverse group, coming to study with us from a wide variety of institutions and from regions within and beyond California. In addition, we regularly welcome students from institutions in South America, Asia, and Europe. What they all share is an interest in pursuing advanced work in the interdisciplinary study of American culture and history.

General requirements
- An applicant to the M.A. in American Studies should hold or be about to receive a bachelor's degree with a major, or its equivalent, in American Studies or in an appropriate discipline of the humanities or social sciences, with at least a 3.2 GPA in undergraduate major courses. In addition, the university requires at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA for admission.
- Candidates should submit 1) a personal statement of 1-2 pages, addressing your background and related experience in preparation for graduate work in American Studies, and discuss why you are interested in pursuing an M.A. in American Studies; 2) two letters of recommendation, preferably from evaluators who can speak to your academic performance and your readiness to pursue graduate work in American Studies; additional letters may be included but are not required; and 3) official transcripts from all undergraduate institutions attended.
