Theology from St. John’s Seminary is a two-year full-time academic degree intended to recognize students who have demonstrated clear potential for sustained excellence in theological studies and research. 


Theology from St. John’s Seminary has a thesis program in which the student researches, writes, presents and defends an original work or a non-thesis program in which the individual will take comprehensive exams with focus in a given subject. 

Graduates with Theology from St. John’s Seminary will be able to demonstrate:

  • familiarity with the historical body of Catholic theology and tradition
  • specific competency in one of the following areas: Biblical Studies, Church History, Moral Theology, Spiritual Theology, or Systematic Theology
  • the ability to reflect theologically on various issues;
  • the scholarly skills essential for further studies in the theological disciplines;
  • the ability to research and to write in a clear, coherent, and competent way.

Three scores are reported: a Verbal Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, a Quantitative Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, and an Analytical Writing score on a 0 - 6 score scale in half-point increments.
