The MSEd. in Literacy from St. Thomas Aquinas College is ideal for certified teachers who hold a teaching certificate and would like to develop expertise in providing literacy instruction to all students, especially those students who struggle with reading. 


In addition, candidates will become proficient in organizing and supervising literacy programs in schools. The program is a total of 36 credits. Most candidates complete the program in two years but candidates can work at a quicker or slower pace as needed. 

Upon completion of the program in Literacy at St. Thomas Aquinas College, candidates will be recommended for NY state teaching certification in Literacy at the appropriate grade level. Teachers who complete this program will be able to work as a reading specialist or literacy coach. Candidates whose long terms goals include supervision may consider taking electives in Teacher Leadership.

There are two degree options for candidates in this program:

  • Early Childhood and Childhood Literacy (Birth-Grade 6)
  • Middle Childhood and Adolescence Literacy (Grades 5- 12)
