Overview
The National Board of Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) are embedded in the competencies of this program of study. Participants will build knowledge in subject matter, instructional practices, and the learning/teaching process. Participants will integrate current research into effective practices and develop the leadership capacities necessary to implement effective educational practices in local settings.
The Education program from Southwest Minnesota State University is offered in three formats:
- Blended: Sports Leadership; Teaching English as a Second Language; and Teaching, Learning, and Leadership emphases.
- Off-campus Learning Community(LC): Teaching, Learning, and Leadership emphasis.

- Online: Master of Science in Education with an emphasis in English, Math, or Reading.

- Official transcript from an accredited college or university stating a Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) has been completed. If you attended a Minnesota State College or University, SMSU should be able to view your transcript without you having to request one to be sent.
- **International Students, please submit an evaluation of your transcripts so we can receive a calculation of your GPA. We currently accept evaluations from SpanTran, WES, and ECE.
- You are required to have a 3.0 GPA for admission into the program. If your GPA is under the requirement, you may still qualify for provisional admission through demonstrating your skills and abilities within your application. Provisional admission does require students to attain a 3.0 GPA in their first semester.
