Overview

Through coursework, practicum experiences, and study with peers and faculty, students in NLU's Reading program gain a dynamic repertoire of strategies to enhance literacy for all learners. Our Reading degree from National Louis University prepares reading teachers and reading specialists for school-wide and district-wide literacy leadership roles that advance equitable learning outcomes, strengthen curriculum, shape policy, and improve instructional practice.

Open to licensed teachers with two or more years of teaching experience in school-based or clinical settings, the reading degree-level and endorsement options allow students to customize their learning experience based on prior educational accomplishments, interests, and career goals.

Have a strong knowledge base in literacy teaching and learning and the inquiry and reflection tools to continue to update that knowledge.
Have a strong practice base in literacy teaching and learning and the inquiry and reflection tools to continue to update their practice.
Create literate environments for diverse students that positively affect student learning.
