Mississippi College’s Biological Sciences department offers a wide variety of biological sciences courses, allowing our quizzical, curious, invested students to prepare for scientific careers in fields like medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy, biological research or science education.


The Master of Science in Biology (Medical Sciences) is your best choice if you are looking for medical school preparation in Mississippi. The program can be completed in 12 months and is designed to prepare students to enter medical, dental or pharmacy school, or begin a career in medical science research or as a physician’s assistant. The M.S. in Biology (Medical Sciences) at Mississippi College covers much of the first-year curriculum at a typical medical school, prepping knowledgeable students in areas such as anatomy, physiology, histology, neuroanatomy and embryology. Students will learn in real-world environments like our 5,000-square-foot human cadaver lab and will learn how to read X-rays, CAT scans and MRIs.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2.5

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.5 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

The general requirements common to all degrees are:

  • a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university,
  • a 2.5 undergraduate grade point average (exceptions: MSCP, EDS, Ed.D.),
  • an appropriate undergraduate foundation in major courses for the degree pursued, and
  • an appropriate standardized test score(s) at or above the published minimum(s).
Admission requirements for the program include (but are not limited to) minimum MCAT, DAT or GRE scores, plus 16 hours of undergraduate biology, 16 hours of undergraduate chemistry and 8 hours of undergraduate physics.
