Overview
Graduates of our Agricultural Education program from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University find rewarding careers as: agriscience teachers for middle or high schools; 4-H agents; Cooperative Extension agents; environmental lawyers; professors or researchers at land-grant universities; managers, human resources, public relations and marketing professionals for agricultural industries; government professionals for United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), other federal or state agencies, and more.
The Master of Science in Agricultural Education at N.C. A&T offers two concentrations for you to choose from, depending on your career goals:
- Professional Licensure – This curriculum prepares individuals to teach agriscience education in middle and high schools. Graduates of this track are eligible to apply for advanced (graduate level) licensure in North Carolina. This track offers graduates versatility in career options, because it prepares them for the many other professions that rely on agricultural educators.
- Professional Service – This curriculum prepares individuals for careers in agribusiness, Cooperative Extension, government, or legal professions.
Other features of the program include: completion of 30 credit hours; a thesis or non-thesis option; distance learning courses - the entire program is online, but has on campus offerings as well; each student's program of study is guided by a graduate committee.
Programme Structure
Upon completion of the graduate program in Agricultural Education:
- Students will critically analyze issues impacting the food, agricultural, and environmental science.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate knowledge and issues impacting the food, agricultural, and environmental science disciplines.
- Students will develop and implement effective program planning and evaluation plans for their agricultural education programs to facilitate improvement of agricultural education programs.
- Demonstrate a deeper appreciation and knowledge of the agricultural education discipline.
- Students will be able to implement and use a variety of instructional methodologies and technologies.
- Students will be prepared to teach a diverse population about subject matter related to food, agricultural, and environmental sciences.

General requirements
- Online application for admission to the Graduate College.
- Transcripts: One unofficial copy of transcript(s)/mark sheet(s) from all colleges and universities previously attended must be uploaded on the application portal. An overall GPA of 3.0 in the bachelor's degree, a previously earned graduate degree or a GPA of 3.0 on at least 12 post-baccalaureate graduate credits is necessary (in addition to the other criteria outlined in the Graduate Catalog) for unconditional admission.
- Recommendations: Three recommendations are expected.
- Personal statement of interest in the program, as required.
- English language proficiency: International applicants are required to provide evidence of English language proficiency.
