Overview

Creative Writing from University of Central Arkansas provides graduate students the opportunity to concentrate on the study, practice, and teaching of Creative Writing in a highly focused writing environment facilitated by writers for writers. At 60 hours, this three-year program will ensure that graduates 

Graduates with Creative Writing from University of Central Arkansas will:

  • build multi-genre backgrounds in the popular discipline of Creative Writing through workshops, forms courses, topics courses, a wide variety of electives, and specialized teaching and editing practicums.
  • earn practical, hands-on experience by serving on the editorial staff of our new online national literary magazine Arkana.

  • a 10- to 30-page portfolio for review in any of the following four areas: poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, or other
  • at least two upper-level undergraduate courses in Creative Writing on his/her transcript

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.70 on a scale of 4.00 OR at least a 3.00 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate study
