At Ithaca College, you’ll develop your expertise alongside a tight-knit cohort of fellow learners. Careers

Speech-language pathologists work in a variety of settings, many of which require specific skills and certifications. Ithaca’s SLP graduate program—including the two externships you’ll complete in real clinical settings—provides a broad foundation in clinical speech-language pathology roles.

If you plan to work in education environments or with children, the M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology with Teacher Certification equips you with additional skills and therapeutic approaches in educational settings.

As a speech-language pathologist, you’ll enter a rewarding career helping people communicate and thrive in their homes, schools, and workplaces. You’ll also enter a high-demand profession.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job prospects for speech-language pathologists are projected to grow by 21% over the next 10 years—more than four times the average rate across all careers! With high demand comes a lucrative salary market: the median pay for speech-language pathologists in 2021 was just over $79,000.

General requirements

To be considered for admission to the speech-language pathology graduate degree, with or without teaching certification, you must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution and an overall grade point average of at least 3.00 (on a 4.00 grading system) in your undergraduate major. You must begin the program during the fall semester.

Include two letters of recommendation that evaluate your academic abilities.

Include all official undergraduate transcripts from every undergraduate institution attended, as well as documentation of any CLEP and/or AP credits you earned.
