Overview

The curriculum in the Community Health Promotion program of the University of Minnesota emphasizes the importance of using research and social science to assess population behavioral health patterns and psychosocial risk factors; design community-wide prevention and intervention programs; influence health policies; and evaluating outcomes of behavioral health change.

General requirements

College-level courses in the following areas:

Social and behavioral sciences (at least 3 courses)

College-level quantitative analysis (1 course): Evidence of college-level coursework in quantitative methods is a prerequisite for application.

Preferred courses include:

Statistics or Biostatistics (Introductory course)

Research Methods: please provide evidence with your application to confirm that the course covers quantitative analytical methods, such as including a syllabus

Calculus or other advanced mathematical modeling

If you have not yet taken statistics or a relevant course, we strongly recommend that you do so, at the institution of your choice, as part of the application process

One year of paid or volunteer experience in a public health, social service, or community setting.
