The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Eastern Michigan University is a 60 semester hour master’s degree program of studies that is intended for students who seek licensure in Michigan as professional counselors and employment in community-based mental health centers, hospitals and other treatment centers, and private practice.


The Department of Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Eastern Michigan University provides top-quality educational experiences for a student population composed primarily of adult learners who are employed on a full-time basis in their respective fields. 

Learning outcomes

Both the educational leadership program (which prepares leaders for K-12 schools and institutions of higher education) and the counseling program (which prepares school, community, and college counselors) seek to distinguish themselves in the state of Michigan through graduate degrees that lead to voluntary administrative certification, counselor licensure, and school counselor endorsement.


The program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
