Founded in 1849 as a small teacher's college, EMU is a major learning and research institution with a distinct mix of comprehensive academic resources and strong community initiatives.


 We offer more than 200 undergraduate majors, minors and certificates, plus more than 150 graduate programs to our 21,105 students.


The Associate Provost and Assistant Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research oversees the research support services at EMU. These offices include:

  • Office of Research Development and Administration
  • Office of Research Compliance
  • Technology Transfer

The research support enterprise at EMU has been designed as a one-stop shop for faculty pursuing research, scholarly, and creative activity.

Student services

  • The Division of Academic and Student Affairs integrates curricular and co-curricular components to improve the academic performance of our students and the quality of academic and non-academic experiences at Eastern Michigan University. 
  • Led by Provost Kim Schatzel and her leadership team, the Division of Academic and Student Affairs is committed to providing our students with the programs and services they need for optimal success, and supporting our faculty in their teaching, scholarship, and service activities.

Housing services

  • Living on Eastern Michigan University's campus puts you in the heart of a great metropolitan area with easy access to great museums, nightlife and other amenities. You are also only a short drive from great parks camping and fun outdoor activities.
  • Housing accommodations are arranged when they are essential to provide equal access to your living arrangement at EMU due to a documented disability. 

Library services

The library is committed to helping individuals achieve their academic goals. Whether that may be instructing individuals through consultations, teaching within the classrooms, or chatting online, the library connects with all so they may become independent thinkers, lifelong learners, and global citizens.

ICT services

We provide a wide range of computer support for students, faculty, and staff. This includes support for Google Mail and G Suite, My.Emich, EMU Wireless, university owned computers, university licensed software, and ResNet assistance for students living in the residence halls.

Medical services

University Health Services (UHS) provides high quality, accessible, affordable health care for Eastern Michigan University students, faculty and staff.Clinic services provided include:

  • Preventative health & physical examinations
  • Travel Health Clinic
  • Immigration (I-693) Physicals
  • Women’s Health Services

Campus life

Campus Life offers student-centered learning, development and involvement activities that challenge and support the unique gifts, needs, experiences and interests of our students, our professional staff members and members of the broader campus community.

Sports facilities

  • The Rec/IM Department strives to provide opportunities for the campus and surrounding community to participate in activities that promote a healthy lifestyle including group fitness classes, personal training and other wellness events.
  • The Rec/IM Department is excited to offer a variety of fitness opportunities including Group Fitness and Personal Training.  Our fitness staff is committed to helping you achieve your goals and have fun at the same time!

Student clubs

Going to college is all about exploring your interests, and no matter what you're interested in, you're likely to find a student organization here--full of people who share your passion. Student organizations help you:

EMU was first accredited by HLC in 1915 and the University has begun to prepare for its next accreditation visit in 2017/18 academic year. This website serves as a portal that gathers documents and resources related to EMU’s Preparation process and the accreditation visit, and helps keep the EMU community informed about the progress.

It was a little different because I was a commuter student. I did not have study groups, nor did I really benefit from them. It often had a negative effect during group projects if I was stuck in traffic on the way to class. The classes were smaller for a typical University, which made getting help from the professor easier. They (the professors) often had office hours...
