The Sustainable Smart Cities program at The University of Alabama at Birmingham offers a broad curriculum covering sustainability theory, sustainable urban development, low carbon and renewable energy systems, green infrastructure, natural resource management, health and liveability, transport and mobility, big data analytics, and smart technologies.

General requirements
- Candidates with a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) from a recognized institution of higher education in an appropriate subject or related science;
- Candidates with related employment or substantial industrial experience with a demonstrable interest in or commitment to urban planning, sustainability and environmental management issues, and/or smart city approaches will also be considered.
- Candidates must schedule an interview with the program director
- International students without a degree from an accredited US/UK institution may be required to submit TOEFL scores based on the interview with program directors. GRE is not required.
- All program students will be required to enroll at both UAB and SU.
