The specialization in human development and family studies provides students with the theoretical foundation and research skills necessary for pursuing doctoral work and for advanced employment in a wide variety of occupations serving children, adults, and families.


Earning a master’s degree in this discipline allows students the opportunity to:

English requirements

TOEFL admission requirements TOEFL® IBT The TOEFL iBT® is given online through the internet at designated testing site. The test measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The score refers to the total score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading), each subject has a range of 0 - 30.
IELTS admission requirements IELTS The International English Language Test System (IELTS) tests your English-language proficiency on a scale of 1 – 9. The score refers to the combined average score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading).

  • Applicant data sheet and statement of purpose
  • One transcript for each U.S. or international institution of higher education
  • Admissions test scores less than five years old 
  • The application fee is $65 for U.S. citizens and permanent residents and $80 for international applicants
  • Three letters of recommendation. 
  • Additional application materials (e.g., portfolios, writing samples, responses to essay questions, etc.) required by individual departments
  • International applicants must submit one certified copy in the native language along with certified precise word-for-word English translations of all transcripts, diplomas, and certificates of degree.
