Each of the three Literacy Studies (Reading/Language Arts Emphasis) program at Grand Valley State University areas can also be completed fully online. The Online Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Literacy Studies was selected as one of the U.S. News & World Report Best Online Graduate Education Programs for 2016.
The M.Ed. in Literacy Studies program is a minimum of 33 credits. With two campuses, Grand Rapids and Detroit, the program offers various options for course delivery:- The Hybrid program combines face-to-face classroom lessons with online assignments.
- The fully-Online program provides the option to complete course online for the M.Ed.

General requirements
- Application Materials: Graduate application, application fee, official transcripts from all previous colleges or universities attended, and copies of teaching/administrative certificates if required for program admission or approved waiver;
- Recommendations: Three professional or academic recommendations on COE recommendation forms, addressing the candidate’s potential for graduate study;
- Grade Point Average: Grade point average of 3.0 or better for the last 60 credits of undergraduate work taken from a regionally accredited institution; or
- Previous Master’s Degree: A prior master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution will be accepted in lieu of the minimum grade point average.
