Degree regulations include full-time residency, maximum of five years to complete, minimum of nine credit hours per semester, exhibition of specific thesis project, written thesis report, and oral defense of the work. Students admitted into the Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art program from Louisiana State University with an undergraduate studio art degree (BFA) must complete a minimum of 60 hours of graduate level credit over the course of three years. Although this is a rare occurrence, a student may petition their graduate review committee and the graduate coordinator for approval to complete the program one semester early, or in two and one half years, as long as 60 credit hours are completed.

        You need the following GPA score:

        Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

        Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

        Admission Requirements:

        All applicants must have the following in order to be considered for unconditional admission:

        • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. institution or the equivalent from a foreign institution.
        • A grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.00 (A = 4.0) on all undergraduate work (or in the final 64 credit hours) and any graduate work already completed.Acceptable GRE or GMAT scores.
        • Demonstrated English proficiency.
        • A copy of the name page of your passport.
        • A completed Affidavit of Support and supporting financial documents (required to process forms for F-1 and J-1 visas).
        • Draft and Gather Additional Application Materials: statement of purpose, curriculum vitae.
