The Mathematics Education degree at the University of Georgia is intended for those holding a bachelor’s degree in mathematics or other field with a strong mathematics background.

The degree is designed to lead to certification for teaching mathematics in grades 6-12 in Georgia at the T5 level. The program combines a depth of study of mathematics with the study of mathematics education, educational psychology, and research.

The program requires 36 hours of coursework, 10 hours of student teaching or internship (for a total of 46 hours), and a written comprehensive examination.

3 letters of recommendation: You will identify your letter writers and their email addresses when you apply, and they will receive an email from the Graduate School asking them to complete the form online.

Transcripts: Applicants should submit unofficial transcripts from all institutions attended as part of the online application. Official transcripts are not required during the review process and will only be required for applicants who are offered admission. Do not mail official transcripts until offered admission.

If submitting test scores: Have your GRE scores sent directly to UGA using the institution code 5813.
