History
The Faculty of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering at Technical University of Ostrava has more than 165 year history. It is a modern material-technological faculty, integrating attractive teaching andresearch excellence in material, metallurgical, chemical, economic and environmental disciplines.
Education
Thanks to its excellent results in long run achieved in the field of science, research and development, traditional international cooperation, as well as to systematically expanded staffing structure, the Faculty gained accreditation for 4 Bachelor study programmes (consisting of 11 fields of study) and for 4 Master study programmes with 8 fields of study, and also for 4 Doctoral study programmes.
Research
The key scientific and research activities of the Faculty are concentrated since 2010 into the Regional Materials Science and Technology Centre , the purpose of which is the integration of the Czech Republic and Moravian-Silesian region into the process of integration of national policies aimed at research, development, innovation and education, in terms of the Lisbon strategy. This integration is the key to the increase in competitiveness and quality of human resources. The Centre, thanks to its unique experimental base, contributes significantly to the principal development of material base of the Czech Republic and to the qualitative shift of research and of university level education in the given region.
