About

History

For more than 200 years, generations of students have received an education here on the site of Goldsmiths.

In 1792 the Counter Hill Academy opened its doors in New Cross, in a house built by Deptford distiller, William Goodhew. The Royal Naval School then bought the site, building what is now our Richard Hoggart Building in 1843.

Education

Our courses and research activities span the arts, humanities, social sciences, cultural studies, computing, business and management across 19 academic departments.

Research

Our research themes bring together expertise from across the humanities, arts, social sciences and computing to commit to making a real difference to society, culture and the economy. They respond to the challenges and opportunities affecting lives both locally and globally, while looking beyond to help shape a better future.

We support a wide range of collaborations between academic staff and external partners to share, expand and enrich knowledge beyond the boundaries of the academy and offer guidance on consultancy, contract research, collaborative research funding and IP management.

BAD Design

I will graduate with a BA Designs degree in a few years . The university is small so facilities such as the library and cafe are cramped with students. Good luck finding a seat. The course was average but unfortunately it did not succeed with my career choice. The design studios are too small, so there's always slots that are booked using the machines. .etc. The classes did not provide much edu...

Studying at Goldsmiths was definitely a shock to the system. Being exposed to so many different modes of thought, not just through the new theory we were tackling academically but also through the connections we made, was challenging, but ultimately very satisfying. Occasionally I felt I could have been pushed more in terms of the academic work. But in terms of opening horizons and exploring ...

I did not enjoy the rigidity of my department, in relation to their attitudes towards creativity. I found the student body to be difficult, not particularly polite or sociable. The Student Union was not a welcoming environment. The majority of my professors were kind and helpful, and supportive.
