In 2007 the Department of Management was established, bringing together four previously separate academic units (the Interdisciplinary Institute of Management, the Department of Industrial Relations, the Department of Information Systems and the Department of Operational Research) into one new integrated department.


Our teaching programmes prepare graduates for careers at the forefront of innovation, leadership and success in organisations across the globe.

We offer a cutting-edge portfolio of teaching programmes, tailored to meet the diverse needs of pre-experience students and professional executives from across the world. Our department has a tradition of innovation in business education, breaking the traditional business school mould and developing fresh approaches to teaching through academic excellence, critical analysis and the latest research in our field.

We are giving our teaching programmes a real world context in the social, economic and political environment in which organisations operate across the globe. Our students will graduate with a unique understanding of real world business, enabling them to face future challenges in the fast-moving global environment, and setting them apart in the workplace as innovative, agile and strategic leaders.

Our alumni enjoy successful careers in a range of sectors across the world, including consulting, business, finance and marketing, as well as public sector, governments and NGOs. Some also use the academic knowledge and professional contacts from their Masters programme to launch successful start-up companies.

Campus life

The Department of Management is located on LSE’s campus in the heart of central London. LSE is a historic London institution, and we are proud to be at the heart of our city's rich culture and global future.

We are located in the New Academic Building on LSE campus. The building was opened in 2008 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, and provides a cutting-edge setting for research and teaching, with state-of-the-art teaching facilities, social space, cafes, study areas and a rooftop terrace with spectacular views of London.
