In 1736, the Ludoviciana – as Giessen University was called up until 1945, in honour of its founder, Landgrave Ludwig V of Hessen-Darmstadt – took the blue, silver-framed three-armed Antoniterkreuz (Cross of St Anthony) as its university crest, which it continues to display.

The Housing Department of the Student Services of the university reserves a certain number of rooms in university student flats for ECTS-students. The reservation procedure will start as soon as your request for accomodation reservation has been sent to the university. Make sure that your request for accomodationreservation will arrive in Giessen before 15.01. (summer semester) or 15.07. (winter semester) respectively. You will then receive an application form which you have to complete and return to the Studentenwerk. Please use this official form of the Studentenwerk only.
As Justus Liebig University Giessen is very centrally located it has excellent connections to the German Autobahn system, rail network, Frankfurt/Main International Airport, and various long-distance inter-city bus routes.

Being an international course, I was able to meet different people from different backgrounds both socially and academically. The course was somewhat broad and I was able to learn new methods as well as expand the methods already known.
The course where mostly very interactive, with a lot of student presentations. We also had a lot of readings and papers to write. The way of teaching involves more students than in my home country.
