Overview

Cultural, historical, legal, political, and economic processes in Eastern Europe are analyzed, considered, and evaluated. Students of the Interdisciplinary Studies on Eastern Europe course at Justus Liebig University Giessen will learn about and critically evaluate various models and theories, as well as develop their scientific judgment and linguistic expression and communication skills. Students will carry out independent analyses of complex issues and will plan, implement, and evaluate an independent research project on Eastern Europe.

General requirements

Admission requirement is a relevant Bachelor's degree (or an academic degree recognised as equivalent). Bachelor's degrees are considered relevant if the previous degree programme has provided knowledge in the selected Master's major subject to the extent of 20 CP and in one of the selected Master's study elements to the extent of 10 CP.

The degree programmes Teaching at Hauptschulen and Realschulen, Teaching at Gymnasium, Teaching at Vocational Schools are also recognised if the subject History or a Slavic language was successfully studied (applicable to applicants with a degree from German universities).
