History
In retrospect, it is now clear how prudent it was back in 1975 to establish a university based on combining strong subject areas with interdisciplinary research and teaching. The questions facing our globalized society are becoming more and more complex. The right answers can only be found through close, cross-disciplinary cooperation – one of the University’s main assets.
Education
Several of the bachelor's programmes are offered in major/minor combinations: at the start of their studies, new students select a minor subject area that is integrated into the degree programme.
Now that you have your bachelor's degree, you would like to deepen your knowledge or pursue your own research? Are you looking to better position yourself for a successful career? Or maybe you would like to introduce a whole new direction to your previous education by taking a non-linear career path to an exciting new field? If so, pursuing a master's degree may be just the thing for you. A master's gives you greater flexibility. It enables you to develop an area of specialization and offers many valuable experiences.
Research
The University of Bayreuth is dedicated to interdisciplinary research. Its research facilities and infrastructure provide an ideal setting for scientific work. Foreign scholars rate Bayreuth as one of the most attractive universities in Germany, consistently placing it among the top institutions in the Humboldt Rankings.

Coming to University of Bayreuth >
I am an international student studying at the Uni Bayreuth. Originally I am from the US, and moving abroad and choosing to be an international student has been the hardest yet most rewarding thing I've ever done in my life. I am so thankful for Uni Bayreuth and my community of students and professors hoping to help us succeed.
I learned faster with helpful guidance throughout
My study experience helped me progress effectively. However, more practical laboratory experience and greater research exposure would make the learning more aligned with real chemist training needs.
Studying at ESFAM was rewarding and worthwhile.
My study experience at ESFAM was both rewarding and memorable. I really liked the supportive lecturers and the strong sense of community among students, which made learning more enjoyable. However, there is room for improvement in providing more modern facilities and practical sessions that link theory to real-world practice. Overall, my time at ESFAM was fulfilling, as it helped me grow academically, personally, and socially.
