Alcorn is the oldest public historically black land-grant institution in the United States and the second-oldest state-supported institution of higher learning in Mississippi. Alcorn University was founded in 1871 as a result of the people of Mississippi’s efforts to educate the descendants of formerly enslaved Africans. It was named in honor of the sitting governor of Mississippi, James L. Alcorn

Expérience académique enrichissante
Mon expérience académique a été globalement positive. J'ai particulièrement apprécié la qualité des enseignements et l'engagement des professeurs, qui ont su rendre les cours interactifs et pertinents. Les ressources mises à disposition, telles que la bibliothèque et les supports en ligne, ont été d'une grande aide pour approfondir mes connaissances. Cependant, certains aspects pourraient être améliorés. La charge de travail était parfois déséquilibrée, avec des périodes de forte intensité suivies de moments plus calmes. Une meilleure répartition des tâches académiques permettrait une gestion du temps plus efficace. De plus, l'accès à certaines infrastructures, comme les salles informatiques, était limité en raison de la forte affluence. J'avais pas la capacité de me payer la contribution donc on me renvoyait. En résumé, cette expérience d'étude a été enrichissante et m'a permis de développer de nouvelles compétences, malgré quelques défis organisationnels à surmonter.

Housing services
- All residence halls offer controlled card access entry, 24-hour camera surveillance monitoring and hall staff on each floor.
- All residence halls are equipped with computer labs, limited wireless access, vending machines and laundry facilities. All student rooms are fully furnished with beds, desks, chairs, wardrobes/closets and chests.
- Living on campus means being at the center of classes, student activities and more.
Library services
The J.D. Boyd Library is your window into the world’s knowledge base. Within the physical library on campus, you’ll find books, journals, magazines, microform, audiovisual materials, newspapers, and more. Use computer terminals to access the Internet, meet with classmates in a group study area, or attend a presentation in the Medgar W. Evers Auditorium.
Medical services
The Department of Health & Disability Services is now located in Rowan Hall next door to the E. E. Simmons Gymnasium. It serves as the primary health care facility on the Main campus offering professional services for all Alcorn State University students, faculty and staff. For verification purposes, ALL individuals requesting services must present an Alcorn Gold Card at the front desk.
Campus life
The main campus of Alcorn is located in Claiborne County, Mississippi, seven miles west of Lorman, seventeen miles southwest of Port Gibson, and about halfway between Vicksburg, to the north, and Natchez, to the south.The campus in Natchez is home to the School of Nursing and School of Business, and a variety of courses are offered at the Vicksburg location.
