About

History

The world population reached 4 billion. And the country was embroiled in the Watergate Scandal that would bring down President Richard Nixon. It was in this atmosphere that the Naropa Institute offered its first two summer sessions in an old bus depot in Boulder, Colorado. More than 1,500 students attended, six times what had been anticipated.

Services

Housing services

Each campus houses a meditation hall for silent, sitting meditation. Meditation halls are available to students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The halls are open whenever the buildings are open.

Library services

We ensure access to the print and electronic reserve materials for your classes. We have a collection of more than 30,000 books and over 130,000 ebooks, periodicals and audiovisual materials – designed to comprehensively support the unique approach of Naropa’s courses of study. We also provide on-site and remote access to a core collection of online databases, full-text journals and finding aids.

ICT services

Current Naropa faculty, students and staff can borrow audiovisual equipment such as multimedia projectors, laptops, digital voice and video recorders, and more from the library.

Student Life

Campus life

  • The Arapahoe Campus (2130 Arapahoe Avenue) is home to the Allen Ginsberg Library, the Performing Arts Center, the campus Administration Building, and Presidential offices. 
  • The Nalanda Campus (6287 Arapahoe Avenue) houses Naropa's performing and visual arts programs, as well as the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics. 
  • The Paramita Campus (3285 30th Street) houses the Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs. 

Accreditation

Naropa University was first accredited in 1986, and the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) re-affirmed Naropa University’s accreditation in September 2015.
