The University of South Bohemia was founded in 1991, following the tradition of educating teachers and university experts in various fields of agricultural production, theological studies and the tradition of fish farming and fisheries.
In 2014, the University will open up its first technical studies - Mechatronics. An extensive campus park rejuvenation is also in progress, new pavilions for the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Fisheries & Protection of Waters are being developed as well as a Science and Technology Park, some residential halls are under reconstruction and by 2016, the complex will also include a new Student Club and University kindergarten. Another major achievement, measured on a European scale, is the development of a unique centre, focused on Fisheries and Protection of Waters, the CENAKVA in Vodňany.

The accommodation capacity at the USB consists of four buildings (K1 to K4) on the campus in the Four Courts, the K5 hall of residence on the left bank of the Vltava River on the outskirts of the Vltava housing estate and the K6 hall of residence in the USB sports complex. The total capacity of the residential halls is 2,300 beds used to full capacity by university students throughout the academic year.
The library also houses the Library for biological institutes in the Czech Republic and the Austrian Library. Books can be found on two floors. The first floor contains social science and fiction books. Natural science, agriculture and medical science books can be borrowed on the second floor. University theses are also available.
The campus is located in the Four Courts of a quiet part of the town and is used for relaxation, cultural and social events.Even a stroll through the campus is well worth your while. An English style park is being gradually created. You will find much greenery, a sports ground and benches, including the unique Václav Havel benches by the architect Bořek Šípek. The nice roads and modern lighting create a positive atmosphere.The campus regularly hosts concerts and events for students and the general public: The first year student welcome, Building a May poll, Light Show, Waste Show and many others.
I appreciate the possibility to study at this university. Town, where it is located, is perfect for the social life, getting new friendships and maintain them. The town is not so big, but it is not so small. There is a nice (and comfortably sized) community of local students and international as well. Okay education, great people/teachers/staff beatiful city.
The lessons were only for international students, so we were not a lot and it was easier to talk to teachers. Not a lot to do, so a lot of free time :) Life is not very expensive, it depends on what you're doing, accomodation and food are really cheap
