The University began as Morehead Normal School, which opened its doors in 1887. The private school closed in the spring of 1922 when the Kentucky General Assembly established Morehead State Normal School. The state institution accepted its first students in the fall of 1923 and graduated its first class in 1927.
MSU has 135 undergraduate and 70 graduate degree programs in four colleges: Caudill College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; College of Business and Technology; College of Education; and College of Science. MSU offers associate, baccalaureate, masters, specialist, and doctoral degrees as well as undergraduate and graduate certificates.

MSU is known as one of the safest campuses in the nation and has a longstanding tradition of emergency preparedness. The University’s police, safety, student success and counseling staff work with agencies throughout the community to review our readiness for natural or man-made emergencies.
MSU's Recreation and Wellness Center has numerous unique options to help you break a sweat and get your heart pumping. Take in a view at our cardio hallways and balconies. Sign up for a variety of fitness classes. Get outside with our Outdoor Adventure/Challenge Course. For the health-conscious individual, it's MSU's go-to destination. This state-of-the-art facility holds over 100 machines and equipment, allowing you to complete a total body workout each time you enter our doors. The variety and amount of new equipment increases your workout time while decreasing your wait. Machines are strategically placed throughout the facility, giving you the option to work out in the heart of the gym, or while enjoying the relaxing scenery of MSU's beautiful campus. New cardio equipment includes connections for your smartphone or mp3 player and built-in television monitors.
Together with the ISIC Association and British Council IELTS, StudyPortals offers you the chance to receive up to £10000 to expand your horizon and study abroad. We want to ultimately encourage you to study abroad in order to experience and explore new countries, cultures and languages.
