History

Auckland Technical School opens in a former cabinet making factory in Rutland Street with 137 students enrolled for night classes in vocational education and the trades.

Our research achievements reflect the variety and breadth of our research efforts. AUT has more than 60 research centres and institutes – enabling us to collaborate locally and globally, and provide excellent opportunities for our postgraduate students. Our researchers are regularly in the spotlight in New Zealand and around the world.

Career

The AUT Employability and Careers team helps you consider your career options and develop the skills you need to stand out to employers and become a highly employable graduate.

We also have an online centre – Employability Lab Online – where AUT students and graduates can make appointments, book to attend events, look for jobs, or access our online resources to help with CVs, job search or interview techniques.

Housing services

Living in student accommodation is a great option – especially if you’re in your first year of study or from outside Auckland. AUT’s student accommodation is convenient and modern – live just minutes away from our City or North Campus.

Living on campus is about more than just the room. You become part of a community from the moment you arrive, with opportunities to make social connections and to develop leadership and life skills that will help you succeed at AUT.

Library services

Borrowing basics:

  • You must have you current AUT ID card with you
  • Borrow items at the self-issue machines, or the Lending Desks
  • Return items to a returns slot at any of the campus Lending Desks
  • Return Short Loan items to the Short Loan returns area
  • Login to My Account check your borrowed items
  • Items can be recalled by others. You will be sent an email to your AUT email address with the new due date.

ICT services

The ICT Service Desk can help with computers, network, internet, printers and other ICT services.

Medical services

AUT has medical centres for students at our City and North campuses. These are staffed by doctors and nurses who provide a range of medical services. Our South Campus offers nursing services only.

Routine appointments are free for domestic students who enrol with us as their main healthcare provider.

Student Life

Campus life

AUT has three campuses with a range of study options:

  • AUT City Campus
  • AUT South Campus
  • AUT North Campus.

Our City Campus is in the heart of Auckland. It is AUT’s biggest campus and home to most academic units and the central administration, including the Vice-Chancellor’s office.

Our North Campus is on Auckland’s North Shore and offers facilities including student accommodation, cafes and our biggest sports centre.

Our South Campus is located in the heart of Manukau. You can choose from courses based entirely at the South Campus, or include papers at the City or the North Campus.

Sports facilities

Our three gyms (City, North and South campuses) offer modern equipment, plus a great range of group exercise classes and access to other sport and fitness services.

I am enjoying my experience at AUT. I have found the smaller classers make getting to know your lecturers a lot easier, and most of the time they are more than happy to help you.

I would not say Auckland University of Technology is not a good university, but their School of Science, especially Food Science is really poor in facility, the program is nit interesting because you literally study again all the basic things that you had learnt in undergraduate. I don't want to disappointed you, but study postgraduate is not sweet like you think. You will...
