About

History

Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut bases its educational philosophy, standards, and practices on the American liberal arts model of higher education. A teaching-centered research university, AUB has around 800 instructional faculty and a student body of around 8,000 students.

Education

The American University of Beirut has long been admired for the strength and breadth of its academic programs and its commitment to a broad-based liberal arts education. All entering undergraduate students are required to complete a number of general education courses that provide them with the opportunity to explore many different disciplines. The University’s Faculties of Agricultural and Food Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Architecture, Health Sciences, Medicine (which includes the Rafic Hariri School of Nursing), and the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business offer more than 120 undergraduate and graduate programs.

Student Life

Campus life

  • Located in Ras Beirut, AUB's main campus has a total of 64 buildings. The 60.9 acre (246,459 square meter) campus overlooking the Mediterranean Sea includes athletic fields, private beach, bird sanctuary, and a repository of native and non-native trees and shrubs.
  • It also comprises seven dormitories, the AUB Medical Center, the Charles W. Hostler Student Center, five libraries, computer labs, Archaeological Museum, Natural History Museum, and one of Lebanon's few geological collections.

Accreditation

The American University of Beirut (AUB) operates under a charter granted by the Education Department of the State of New York in 1863, which registers the Universitys degree programs. AUB degrees are also recognized by the Lebanese government through the equivalence committees of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

My university provided a lot of opportunities for technical learning, however it's too expensive. overall, i consider myself a well educated person thanks to my university.

It is very stressfull

It is a good experience as a whole but what bothers me the most is the lack of management in my department maybe it is different for other department and it is a very expensive school. I am doing my masters at AUB so maybe the undergrad experience is better.
