Kobe University

The origin of Kobe University can be traced back to Kobe Higher Commercial School, an institution of higher education founded in 1902. Presenting an opportunity to look back over the one hundred plus years of the university's history, and to gain a perspective for the future, the Compilation Committee for the Centennial History of Kobe University is currently in the process of publishing a chronicle titled, "The Centennial History of Kobe University."

Master's Programmes

  • It may also be relevant for the university to gain a clear and comprehensive understanding of how each successor institution built on the achievements of its predecessor and eventually integrated into the present day Kobe University.
  • The university encompasses numerous cultural and historical heritages that cover a long span of history. A part of the materials that have been gathered to prepare for the chronicle is currently on permanent display in the exhibition hall within KOBE University Centennial Hall. They are displayed chronologically from the Meiji period to the Heisei period. Giving due consideration to the origins of Kobe University's predecessor institutions, the exhibits are organized in the following order: 1) institutions and schools which originated from Kobe Hospital; 2) Hyogo Prefectural School of Medicine and Hyogo Prefectural Medical School, which later became the Prefectural Kobe Medical School; 3) institutions that originated from Hyogo Prefectural Normal School; 4) Kobe Higher Commercial School, Kobe University of Commerce, and Kobe University of Economics; 5) Kobe Technical College, which later became Kobe College of Technology; 6) Kobe Nautical College, which originated from Kawasaki Merchant Marine School and later became Kobe University of Mercantile Marine; 7) Himeji High School; 8) Hyogo Prefectural School of Agriculture, founded after World War II and later became Hyogo University of Agriculture; and finally 9) Kobe University, which was established as a comprehensive university.
  • Displayed materials are related to the institution's founding process, management, education, research, and student life. Photographs of the first president, classroom scenes, and former school buildings are also on display. The Compilation Committee sincerely hopes that the exhibition will deepen the understanding of, as well as provide new insights into, the history of Kobe University.
  • This exhibition is accompanied by another permanent exhibition displaying notebooks and photo panels of a distinguished haiku master, YAMAGUCHI Seishi titled, "Seishi's Haiku and Experience Overseas." Kobe University Executive Committee for the YAMAGUCHI Seishi Foundation is the host of this exhibit.

Most of the professors are amazing! You can have productive experiences. But if you are assigned to a lab whose professors are terrible, it may be really hard to finish your thesis.
