Overview
The Department of Mathematics at Kobe University's Faculty of Science follows the principle that "mathematics is essentially one." This is because, while valuing expertise in fields such as algebra, geometry, and analysis, it aims to produce "essentially new discoveries" based on free discussion and innovative thinking that transcends individual specialties.
Key Features
Furthermore, while it is often said that "mathematics is the language of natural science," it has developed in a more fundamental sense, deeply connected to "physics," "biology," "astronomy," "chemistry," and even "computer science," "engineering," and "social sciences." They want to pay attention to this tradition as well. Therefore, they would like to consider collaborative research with other fields, sometimes even going beyond the framework of the "current mathematics department."
The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, Kobe University, warmly welcomes not only students who excel in mathematics, but also motivated students who may not be particularly strong in mathematics but are interested in the study of numbers and space. In addition to covering the major research fields of mathematics today, our staff includes outstanding specialists in fields such as physics and computational geometry, so they also welcome students who are interested in these fields and wish to study mathematics at the same time.
