History
Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) was founded in 1896 as Nanyang College. Carrying on the tradition of “high starting points, a solid foundation, strict requirements, and keenness on practice and innovation,” SJTU has nurtured over 200,000 talents who have been working all over the world. Among them are famous statesmen such as Jiang Zemin and “The Father of Chinese Aerospace,” Qian Xuesen.
Education
Today SJTU has 67 undergraduate programs covering 9 major disciplines: economics, law, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management and arts. There are 49 national higher education teaching achievement prizes (36 completed independently）.
Research
SJTU enjoys an increasingly high scientific research level and technology innovation level. SJTU led the country for the 9th consecutive year in terms of both the project number and the amount of money issued by National Natural Science Foundation of China. The number of SCI included papers in terms of the Article, and Review hit a historical high with the total number of 6,912, among which 3,255 are international outstanding papers and 4,659 are domestic outstanding papers, ranking first in China's universities. The total number of domestic SCI-cited papers reaches 30,739, ranking the second in China.
Career
Carrying the mission of preserving cultural heritage, and seeking for the truth, bearing the responsibility of invigorating the Chinese nation and developing for the benefits of mankind, today this centennial university is sailing for the aim of becoming a comprehensive, research-oriented and internationalized world-class university.

Goal to be a clinical investigator!
It’s a comprehensive university with excellent medical school. It provides students with clinical training and scientific research. I study oral implantology in hospital and undertake research in laboratory.

Housing services
The equipments and facilities in dormitory vary from room types, buildings and campus, however, air-conditioner, cable television, self-laundry and internet access service are provided in all dorm rooms and buildings. Moreover, the basic furniture such like bed, desk, chair, wardrobe and bed textiles such like bed linen, pillow, quilt and mattress are also offered for free use. Lianxing Building, Asian Youth Center (Tao Li Yuan) on Xuhui Campus and No. 8, 9, 10 Dorm Building are equipped with individual bathrooms. No.12, 51 Dorm Building on Minhang Campus are equipped with shared bathrooms. Moreover, 24-hour hot water is provided in all bathrooms in dorm building.
Library services
Over the years, SJTU Library has made great progress and had significant achievements. With a total area of -61.200 m2, SJTU Library system currently comprises a number of branches covering a wide range of fields on natural and social science and technology, including above affiliated libraries and reading rooms housed in different schools and departments.
Student clubs
SJTU’s International Student Union was founded in 2009, the team member is international students coming from different countries. Currently it has 6 departments within the union: Media Department(mainly responsible for the publicity work of the International Student Union in the early stage of the event, including WeChat official account, posters, promotional videos, photography of various activities, and graphic promotion), Art Department (mainly responsible for the organization of cultural and art events, program planning and event scheduling), Volunteer Department(mainly responsible for regularly coordinating student issues and guiding new students), Secretary Department.
