In 1987 Curtin University of Technology became Western Australia’s third university and Australia’s first university of technology.

Curtin made the transition from the Western Australia Institute of Technology (WAIT) to a university with the passing of an Act of Parliament in December 1986, accepting its first students as a university in 1987.


The University's mission is to change minds, lives and the world through leadership, innovation and excellence in teaching and research.

The University offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in business, humanities, health, resources, engineering and related sciences.


Curtin University is widely recognised for research that is firmly focused on solving real-world problems.

Research at Curtin University is conducted by academic staff and postgraduate research students supported by the Office of Research & Development.Curtin’s research strengths are concentrated around four broad themes:

The Centre - accessible from anywhere in the world - works with the university community and industry, to source work opportunities and develop services to assist students, staff and Alumni for up to 18 months after they graduate.

Student services

The CITS Service Desk is the campus's first contact point for IT questions and issues, handling phone calls, email and walk-in requests for services and support.

Library services

There are plenty of libraries on the campus, such as: Robertson Library, John Curtin Prime Ministerial Library (JCPML), Curtin's WA School of Mines Kalgoorlie Library, Curtin Graduate School of Business Library etc.

Curtin students and staff can use any of the computers in the library (other than those labeled “Catalogue only”) to access the internet, email, OASIS or Blackboard.

ICT services

Curtin’s Policies and Procedures are binding on students after enrolment, and it is their responsibility to become familiar with, and adhere to, these guidelines, including those relating to ICT.

Information Security supports the University and its staff and students by developing strategies and monitoring compliance to ensure that information and information systems.

Medical services

Curtin University provides a comprehensive health service to Curtin University students and staff.

The department provide comprehensive general practice patient care including:
  • Management of all health problems
  • A walk-in clinic runs most mornings for urgent, quick medical problems
  • Lifestyle advice, including information on stress management, sexual health and drugs

Student Life

Campus life

The suburb of Bentley, located about six kilometres south-east of central Perth, is home to Curtin’s main campus. In close proximity to everything Perth has to offer, it boasts 116 hectares of bold architecture nestled amongst beautiful landscaped gardens.

Curtin Housing Services can provide self-catered and fully furnished accommodation for students, on or off the Bentley campus, however on-campus places are limited. Students can also find accommodation through local real estate agents or websites.

Sports facilities

Curtin’s recreation and events complex, Curtin Stadium, offers you a variety of fitness and sporting options. The stadium has a main gym, women’s gym, group fitness classes and 23 registered and affiliated sports clubs catering for all levels of skills and experience.

They can play tennis, football, soccer, cricket, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, netball, futsal, floorball, and compete in serious sports competitions or take part in evening social sports and fun, knock-out competitions.

Student clubs

There are plenty of Student Associations on campus. Their aim is to make life at university easier for students by offering support, representation, social and academic events.

Curtin University offer a very useful program for the students, the working environment was pleasant thus making me want to give my best. I am still a student and the courses that are offered are very useful. the teaching methods helped me learn a lot about the marketing world and management people.

Curtin focuses extremely heavily on the research side of Psychology. Whilst important, the course was lacking in units that taught practical skills that students could utilize and apply if they chose not to pursue a Masters or PhD. As a result, I have struggled finding work in counselling, social work or case worker type roles - roles that I was told would welcome...
