Overview
This new, accelerated 12-month master course from Curtin University has been designed to meet changed health industry demands, both across the Australian health sector and globally, that require advanced practice clinicians, clinical leadership and clinical research skills in identified areas of healthcare.
The first of its kind in Western Australia, this Advanced Practice course combines specialisations in clinical practice with research practice. It is suitable for registered nurses, midwives, paramedics and oral-health therapists wanting to develop distinctive careers involving research activities within clinical settings.
You will learn the skills of evidence-informed clinical practice, including relevant health-care policy standards and strategies that enable translation of evidence into practice.
You will also explore qualitative, quantitative and mixed-methods research processes, and related ethical considerations, for applied health research and evaluation practices.
You will then consolidate your learning with a research project in one of the following specialisations from your graduate certificate:
- Acute Care Nursing
- Advanced Specialty Practice
- Child and Adolescent Health Nursing
- Clinical Leadership
- Critical Care Nursing
- Diabetes Studies
- Wound, Ostomy and Continence Practice
What you'll learn
- Apply discipline knowledge, principles and concepts in accordance with relevant practice codes, standards and legislation
- Apply critical thinking and reflective practice to clinical practice to generate innovative solutions
- Access, evaluate and synthesise information relevant to clinical leadership and the promotion of optimal outcomes for clients
- Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with clients, carers, families, communities and the interdisciplinary health care team
- Utilise technology safely and appropriately for the diagnosis and management of clients
- Participate in research and critically appraise research findings and incorporate evidence based knowledge into clinical practice

- Applicants for the Master of Advanced Practice Degree (Coursework) are required to meet University academic and English language standards. Applicants will require a Bachelor Degree, Bachelor Honours Degree, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in their related field.
- Applicants must also hold three (3) years' experience in their related field post Bachelor degree. Enrolment can be full time or part time. Study plan can be negotiated. A part time study plan is essential for specialisations that are linked to employment.
