Overview

The objective of the Clinical Investigation program at Northwestern University is to produce clinical scientists who are skilled in clinical research techniques, competitive in seeking research support and knowledgeable about the complex issues associated with conducting sound clinical research, particularly in translational and clinical epidemiologic patient-oriented studies. As such, all program participants are expected to be actively engaged in investigations with a mentor, preferably one at Northwestern University, who should have national funding (e.g., NIH, AHA). Prior to enrolling, applicants should prepare a brief research plan reviewed by their mentor(s).

Students can enter the program at the beginning of any of the four quarters. The degree is typically obtained in two to three years.

Prospective Degree Students

The MSCI program accepts students from a variety of healthcare backgrounds who are interested in gaining the skills to conduct sound clinical research, particularly translational and clinical epidemiologic patient-oriented research. Students may enroll at the start of any of the four quarters. This is part-time program offers evening courses in a live setting.
