Developed by an expert team of faculty and industry professionals, the MSHCA-Accelerated Program is designed to prepare you for administrative positions in hospitals, managed care, mental health settings, long-term care, multi-institutional system central offices, governmental health agencies, and other health-related organizations.

Graduates of Health Care Administration at California State University Long Beach will achieve competencies in the areas of communications and relationship management; leadership; professionalism; knowledge of the health care environment; and business skills. These core competencies are based on the model prescribed by the American College of Health Care Executives’ Competency Assessment Tool and Healthcare Leadership Alliance’s Competency Directory. Specific subject areas include an analysis of the U.S. health care system, managerial skills essential to the health care profession, financial management, and strategic business in the health industry, ethics, and public policy analysis.

Academic requirements

GMAT admission requirements GMAT The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a test intended to assess certain analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills in written English for use in admission to a graduate management program, such as an MBA. GMAT contains 4 sections - Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative and Verbal. The score has a range from 200 - 800.

English requirements

TOEFL admission requirements TOEFL® IBT The TOEFL iBT® is given online through the internet at designated testing site. The test measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The score refers to the total score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading), each subject has a range of 0 - 30.
IELTS admission requirements IELTS The International English Language Test System (IELTS) tests your English-language proficiency on a scale of 1 – 9. The score refers to the combined average score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading).

General requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a GPA of at least 3.0 in the last sixty units of undergraduate study. 
  • At least nine units of financial accounting, microeconomics, and statistics, all of which must be completed before the first semester of graduate study (but may be in progress during the application process) and must be taken within the last ten years. 
  • A minimum of five years of work experience in the health care industry or the submission of GRE or GMAT test scores (current within the last two years) to the CSULB MSHCA office.
