Overview
We provide advanced training in social science research and methods for students seeking to pursue academic careers. This is achieved through coursework and hands-on experience that emphasize up-to-date knowledge about contemporary policies and practices in crime and justice, and the development of skills needed for students to become more effective agents of change in their communities of practice.
The Criminal Justice program of Rutgers University requires 30 credits of coursework with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.8. The 30 credits include 12 credits of core courses and 18 credits of electives. Students can customarily, complete the degree in 3 semesters if enrolled full-time (5 semesters if enrolled part- time). All requirements for the Master of Arts degree must be completed within three years of the first matriculation in the criminal justice program.

General requirements
- All applicants must have completed a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the United States or a comparable institution in another country.
- Applicants must provide official undergraduate transcript, personal statement, CV/resume and three letters of recommendation.
- Additionally, candidates must either provide results from a standardized graduate admissions test (GRE, LSAT or GMAT) or respond to the program essay question.
- Results from a GRE, LSAT or GMAT can be optionally submitted.
- International students: TOEFL or IELTS test scores is required if undergraduate education was completed in a non-English speaking country.
