Students gain practical experience in many ways. Class projects often involve collaboration with local governments or nonprofit agencies. A mentorship program allows students at all stages of their careers to partner with senior administrators in the region. And our internship program, recommended for all students and required for those who do not have relevant management experience, is often a stepping stone to employment. Recent internship placements have included the cities of Largo, Oldsmar, and Temple Terrace; Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, and Pinellas counties; nonprofits like Connect For More; and the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital

Career Opportunities

The Public Administration MPA program offered at University of South Florida is designed primarily to prepare students for successful leadership roles and management careers in the public (i.e., governmental and quasi-governmental organizations), non-profit, and private sectors. Students enrolled in the M.P.A. program pursue careers in local, state, or federal agencies of government, non-profit organizations, and special service districts. Those employed in public management positions may wish to pursue an M.P.A. degree in order to broaden their educational backgrounds to prepare for increased job responsibilities, or to change career paths.
