The mission of the University of Florida graduate program in Art Education is to provide a progressive, engaging program that prepares art teachers to thrive within various 21st century learning environments. The faculty at University of Florida continually reshapes the Master of Arts in Art Education online curriculum to meet the needs of the evolving educational landscape. Grounded in both theory and practice, the program promotes meaningful learning and art making techniques through high-level interactions, group collaboration, independent study and more. Elective and core curriculum can include the study of:

  • Art Criticism and/or Art History
  • Contemporary Issues in Art Education

One of the unique characteristics of the University of Florida online Master of Arts in Art Education program is its emphasis on immersive, hands-on art making experiences, through the inclusion of advanced studio courses. This includes on-campus summer studio courses during the Summer term in Gainesville, Florida, as well as online studio courses involving new and traditional media. Studio experiences are available on a rotating basis and include such courses as Sketchbook, Printmaking, Digital Photography, Digital Video, Design and Painting.

  • A recognized baccalaureate, graduate or professional degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable degree from an international institution.
  • For applicants with a bachelor’s degree only, a minimum grade point average of B (3.0), calculated from all grades and credits after the semester where the applicant reached 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours is required. Applicants should refer directly to their intended academic units for Graduate Record  Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) requirements. If required, academic test scores are used in the context of a holistic credential review process.
