Overview
An active clinical research workforce is essential to ensure that biomedical research advances are translated into patient care. Despite a critical need, there is growing concern about the vitality of the clinical research enterprise in the United States. UAMS is working to close the gap between biomedical research and the application of that research by offering advanced M.S. or Ph.D. graduate training in the Clinical and Translational Sciences (CTS).
Career
Students in the Clinical and Translational Sciences program from University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences take coursework designed to build a strong foundation in clinical and translational sciences including biostatistics, epidemiology, data management and analysis, clinical research methodology, clinical trial design, drug development, responsible conduct of research, grant writing, and scientific communications. Courses are offered in the College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Public Health, and College of Pharmacy. MS students can complete the non-thesis pathway, or collaborate with the CTS Faculty to conduct thesis research in a variety of clinical research areas. Ph.D. students conduct much more in-depth research under the guidance of their dissertation mentor.
