Overview

The faculty includes two terrestrial archaeologists (prehistoric and historic), two maritime archaeologists, two biological anthropologists (forensic and bio-archaeology) and one medical anthropologist. In addition to faculty in the Department of Anthropology, students in our master's degree programs benefit from additional archaeology faculty members housed within the Archaeology Institute and Florida Public Archaeology Network Northwest Regional Center.

What You Will Learn

The anthropology master's degree program prepares you for a variety of professional positions and entrance into doctoral programs. Our approach combines a strong anthropological perspective, an active faculty, a vigorous research and contract program, flexibility and many opportunities to obtain hands-on experience. This program requires a thesis.

Current student-focused research topics include prehistoric and Colonial historical archaeology, cultural and biological archaeology, industrial archaeology and maritime field excavations and research. Graduate students are involved at all levels of responsibility.

We offer two specializations: anthropology and historical archaeology. Students with an interest in maritime archaeology choose between these tracks, depending on their research interests.

The average student will take between 36-48 months to complete both the coursework and a thesis.

UWF offers classes through various delivery methods, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online. Though UWF makes every effort to provide on-campus classes in face-to-face programs, there is a possibility that some classes will have limited availability and may be offered online only.
