Overview

The Master of Science in Dental Hygiene degree at The University of Texas at San Antonio is an online student-centered program that  is committed to facilitating the development of creative thinking professionals who are competent to pursue careers in dental hygiene education, public/community health care and research. Students have the opportunity to share their experiences, knowledge and skills, work cooperatively with colleagues, and explore a variety of resources to help them reach their maximum potential as health care professionals.

Learning opportunities

The Master in Dental Hygiene program specializes in preparing faculty for entry-level and graduate programs, leaders in dental public health and research and prepares the student for possible doctoral education. We encourage our students to be self-directed and self-evaluate throughout the program. You can complete the courses online, on your own time schedule. You may work with other health specialties as part of your educational experience.

Bachelor’s degree from a nationally and regionally accredited institution of higher education in the United States
Graduated from an accredited dental hygiene program recognized by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) within the United States and Canada
Successful completion of the Dental Hygiene National Board Examination
The undergraduate grade point average should be no lower than a 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale system
Current licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist in any state in the United States or Canada.
Graduate Record Examinations General Aptitude Test  (GRE) or on the  Miller Analogies Test  (MAT). Must be taken within the past 5 years and scores and submitted in ADEA DHCAS
Applicants from countries where English is not the native language are required to submit scores on the  Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A minimum score of 68 (Internet), 220 (computer), or 560 (paper) is required
