Overview
The Master of Science in Dental Hygiene degree at The University of Texas at San Antonio is an online student-centered program that is committed to facilitating the development of creative thinking professionals who are competent to pursue careers in dental hygiene education, public/community health care and research. Students have the opportunity to share their experiences, knowledge and skills, work cooperatively with colleagues, and explore a variety of resources to help them reach their maximum potential as health care professionals.
Learning opportunities
The Master in Dental Hygiene program specializes in preparing faculty for entry-level and graduate programs, leaders in dental public health and research and prepares the student for possible doctoral education. We encourage our students to be self-directed and self-evaluate throughout the program. You can complete the courses online, on your own time schedule. You may work with other health specialties as part of your educational experience.

General requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from a nationally and regionally accredited institution of higher education in the United States
- Graduated from an accredited dental hygiene program recognized by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) within the United States and Canada
- Successful completion of the Dental Hygiene National Board Examination
- The undergraduate grade point average should be no lower than a 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale system
- Current licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist in any state in the United States or Canada.
- Graduate Record Examinations General Aptitude Test (GRE) or on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT). Must be taken within the past 5 years and scores and submitted in ADEA DHCAS
- Applicants from countries where English is not the native language are required to submit scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A minimum score of 68 (Internet), 220 (computer), or 560 (paper) is required
