Overview
Health systems are among the most consequential and complex parts of modern societies, shaped and reshaped by political institutions, public and private sector actors, technologies, and shifting social needs. In an era of growing pressures driven by social, ecological and public health challenges, including widening inequities, health leaders need new skills and perspectives to navigate complexity and lead meaningful change across systems.
The Health Systems, Policy and Innovation programme from UCL was created to fill this critical gap. Housed at UCL’s Global Business School for Health, it offers a transdisciplinary learning experience that combines world-class expertise in health systems and policy with strategic problem-solving and innovative thinking drawn from business and public leadership.
Career
Graduates of this course will be well-positioned to pursue impactful careers across a wide range of sectors, including government, global health institutions, industry, consultancy, academia, and the civil society sector.
Some may take up roles in ministries of health or public agencies, contributing to policy development, strategy, and systems reform. Others may join international organisations, think tanks, NGOs, or consultancies working on global health challenges. Graduates will also find opportunities in health-related industries – including healthcare delivery, biotechnology, health products, digital health, and AI – particularly in companies exploring new or emerging health markets, where systems insight and cross-sector skills are increasingly in demand.
The MSc also provides a strong foundation for those interested in pursuing doctoral research in health systems and policy, and in contributing to evidence generation, system design, and institutional strengthening in diverse settings.
