General requirements
- To be considered for either the MS or PhD program, it’s recommended that applicants hold a degree in the biological (e.g., microbiology, molecular biology, immunology, neurobiology, psychobiology, genetics) and chemical sciences (e.g., biochemistry, organic, inorganic and physical chemistry, thermodynamics).
- Candidates should also have a minimum 3.0 grade point average in upper division courses in these subjects. Degree-holders from other disciplines, with a strong background in the sciences, are also welcome to apply. A dental background is helpful, but not required.
- For our two combined degree programs, DDS/PhD and Dental Specialty/PhD, you must apply to the DDS program or the specialty program separately, in addition to applying to the PhD program.
