The master’s program balances feminist theory with practice, preparing students for immediate entry into professions or further academic study. Our graduates typically go on to advocacy, healthcare, education, or related professions in governmental or non-governmental agencies, or they enter Ph.D. programs.

The 36-credit hour M.A Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program from University of North Carolina Greensboro balances feminist theory with practice, preparing students for immediate entry into professions or further academic study. MA Students enroll in 9 credit hours of theory and analysis and, in consultation with the Graduate Adviser, develop a plan of study tailored to their goals and interests (21 credit hours). Each student selects either a thesis or an internship as a culminating experience (6 credit hours). Full-time students can complete the program in two years.
- Courses offered by WGSS and other outstanding faculty across the university provide opportunities for students to engage in varied modes of inquiry on issues of local, national, and international importance.
- The program offers internships in which students experience the “real world” built into coursework. This will allow for students to further their knowledge of the field outside of the classroom.

- Three recommendations from professors (preferred) or employers. WGSS strongly recommends that you request recommendations from professors, ones who can speak to your skills as a student and your preparation for graduate school.
- A personal statement describing your preparation for graduate school and explaining how the WGSS MA program aligns with your academic and professional experiences and goals.
- An academic writing sample, such as a research paper from an academic course. This should represent your best work and should be a substantial piece of writing.
- An academic and professional CV (curriculum vitae) or résumé (only required if you are applying for an assistantship or other funding).
