Key Facts
Because American music largely finds its roots in Black music, the preservation, proliferation, production and research of this music is included in the study of music in higher education. The curriculum of the Music in Black Sacred Music program at University of Arkansas is designed to equip students with the essential tools needed for professional careers that involve the presentation, teaching, and research of Black sacred music.
Program participants will receive interdisciplinary training and significant internship opportunities consistent with the work experiences associated with Black sacred music spaces and related industries. The program prepares students for top careers in Black sacred music, and for music study at the doctoral level.

General requirements
- A personal statement explaining motivation for pursuing graduate research in art history, personal and career goals, and relevant qualifications and experiences.
- A writing sample demonstrating preparedness for advanced research in art history (15-20 pages).
- Curriculum vitae or résumé.
- Three letters of recommendation addressing the applicant's preparedness for graduate education.
- A pdf of unofficial transcripts from all previous colleges and universities attended. Successful applicants will have an undergraduate degree in art history, or significant coursework in art history or a related discipline relevant to art history and/or the arts of the Americas focus of the program.
