Key facts

As part of the curriculum, students receive extensive practical experience working in laboratories of affiliated clinical sites, including WVU Medicine locations.
The program in Medical Laboratory Science is based at the West Virginia University Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center and consists of lectures, student laboratory instruction, and clinical experience at one of the program’s affiliated laboratories.

While granting of the Master of Science (MS) degree is not contingent on passing any external certification or licensure examination, the MLS program also prepares graduates to sit for the national certification examination given by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification (BOC).
