Overview
Classes taught at The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree program at Benedictine College are in a hybrid manner with a mix of synchronous coursework (not to exceed two Wednesday evenings per month via Zoom) and asynchronous work. Candidates will follow one of two tracks: Elementary or Secondary.

- The elementary track leads to eligibility for a Kansas teaching license in grades PreK-6.
- Secondary candidates with degrees in the following disciplines qualify for admission to the MAT.: Art, Biology, Chemistry, English, French, Math, Music, Physics, P.E./Health, Social Science, and Spanish.

General requirements
MAT elementary program must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Verification of employment in an accredited school.
- Agreement with a school-based mentor with at least 3+ years of teaching experience.
- Ability to complete initial coursework prior to the first day of teaching.
- Successful fingerprinting and background check to earn a L.E.A.P. license from KSDE (for candidates teaching in Kansas).
- Undergraduate degree or graduate degree in the content area for which the license is sought.
- Passing score on the Praxis content test.
- Verification of employment in an accredited school.
- Agreement with a school-based mentor with at least 3+ years of teaching experience.
- Ability to complete initial coursework prior to the first day of teaching.
- Successful fingerprinting and background check to earn a Restricted license from KSDE (for candidates teaching in Kansas).
