The Applied Sociology course at University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) foci include sociology of health, illness, and medicine; aging and the life course; selected areas of diversity, gender, and culture; and applied research methods.

Graduates of the program work at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Social Security Administration (SSA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Institute of Aging (NIA), the Bureau of the Census (BOC), the Maryland Department of Health (MDH), medical school and university research centers, nonprofit organizations, and private research organizations.
