Overview
South Carolina State’s Master of Arts in Teaching degree program has been developed according to Standards for Program Approval by the South Carolina Department of Education. Additionally, it meets all of the requirements for initial certification in the specified concentrations, and it provides the knowledge base and develops the competencies needed by program graduates to fulfill the teaching roles for which they are to be prepared.
Quick Facts:
- Maybe you’ve worked in human services or a related field. You’ve witnessed how quality schooling — or a lack thereof — can affect a child’s entire being. Now, you’ve developed a strong interest in teaching at the K–8 level.
- Or perhaps you obtained your non-teacher bachelor’s degree in a subject area taught in schools, like English, mathematics, health, science, or social studies. Now, you wish to put your education to use in a new way — teaching K–12 students.
- Regardless of how you arrived at this point, South Carolina State University’s Master of Arts in Teaching degree program will prepare you for initial certification to pursue your new goal — to become a teacher.
- Our master’s degree for teaching framework focuses on developing you as a professional educator, an effective performer, a reflective decision-maker, and a humanistic practitioner. The major objective of our teaching master’s degree is to provide a route for your initial teaching certification at the graduate level.
- Our master’s degree for teachers is also designed to develop your skills and knowledge for the appropriate grade level.
